Keeping Emperor Tetras (Nematobrycon palmeri) is relatively easy, making them a great choice for both beginners and experienced aquarists. They prefer a well-maintained tank with soft, slightly acidic to neutral water (pH 6.0–7.5) and a temperature between 73–81°F (23–27°C). A minimum tank size of 20 gallons is recommended, especially for a small group, as they are schooling fish and feel most secure in groups of six or more. Provide a planted environment with hiding spots, subdued lighting, and open swimming areas to mimic their natural habitat. They are peaceful and do well in community tanks with other non-aggressive fish. A varied diet of high-quality flake food, micro pellets, and occasional live or frozen treats like brine shrimp or daphnia will help maintain their vibrant coloration and health. Regular water changes and good filtration are key to keeping them healthy and stress-free.
